What This Page Is For

Landscape estimating fails in two directions: a coverage rate quoted on a loose rather than installed basis, or a waste factor guessed at. Both are checkable against a published document, so this scope is reviewed that way and the procedure is written down here.

The Four Checks Every Page in This Scope Passes

  • 1. Methodology — Is the coverage basis stated? A cubic yard of mulch spread at 3 in covers roughly 108 ft² before shrinkage; a paver count is taken from the laying pattern’s course spacing, not the nominal face size. Pages declare which basis they use instead of assuming the reader shares it.
  • 2. Calculation logic — Do area, depth and yield reconcile, and does the page carry the same units through? Board-foot, cubic-yard, tonne and coverage conversions are re-derived from the cubic yard calculator and the square feet to tons formula so the site has one answer per conversion, not several.
  • 3. Field assumptions — Are the default depths, bedding sand thickness, geogrid and base-section choices the published prescriptive values, and are the settled-vs-compacted allowances shown? Anything that depends on site conditions is flagged as site-dependent rather than hidden in a default.
  • 4. Price calibration — Material costs appear as 2026 US regional bands with the source class labelled (bulk yard, home centre, or installed contractor quote), because those three routinely differ by a factor of two on the same product.
